Honors Art II
This art prompt, a design for the Christmas card contest, was interesting to say the least. Many of the designs done by my peers were done in pen in ink, whether it be printing ink or with a traditional pen and ink. My card itself was a mix of both use of printing ink and ink with a pen. I made a background by carving into a stamp that I later used with printing ink onto the card itself. I then drew an angel with a quill and ink. I very much enjoyed being able to use ink, it was a rather new medium for me and I really enjoyed working with it and would like to work with it more in the future as well.
The only aspect to this project that I did not enjoy was the timeline. I wish the timeline for the project to be due was pushed sooner. The project itself seemed to drag on and I eventually got tired of it. If the due date was a bit sooner it would have pushed me to finish it quickly yet efficiently and it would have been less of a hassle. Other than that, enjoyed the project. I am looking forward to see the results of the Christmas card contest in the future. I am also very much looking forward to working with pen and ink in the future, and I hope there will be projects in the future that would allow myself and my peers to do so.
I really enjoyed this project, much more than the last. This project, a still life, was done in oil pastel through stippling, which allows for a more realistic and interesting outcome. I decided to have my project consist of a paintbrush, a boot, a comic, headphones, a keyboard, and a beanie. These items being the main focus of my piece, I decided to use colder colors and. For the background, in order to contrast, I decided to use warmer colors and also white to tie in some of the lighting from the different items. My favorite part about this piece would be the headphones, while my least favorite part about the piece would either be the beanie or how light the colors and lighting made the comic seem. Other than that, I'm really proud in how the different colors work together and tie the whole piece together.

-Use multicolored felt squares
-Draw initial abstract stations (on paper) to use as reference
-Roughly follow the the designs and references and cut different colors of the felt into each of the pieces for each of the stations
-Position them accordingly onto the fleece which will be cut and hemmed
-Use fabric chalk to mark where pieces go if necessary
-Glue them to fabric using fabric glue

2015 Final Piece
With the rest of the honors art classes, I had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Fine Arts and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Under the supervision of Mrs. Burakowski and other chaperones, my peers and I were able to explore the museum and look at as many collections and pieces that we possibly could before heading over to the School. Both the museum and the school were incredible and it was one of the best class trips I have ever been on. There were many pieces at the museum that intrigued me, while others I fell in love with, and others I did not like. However, three pieces that stood out from the rest of the collections were The Protest Dress (Proenza Schouler), The Portrait of a Young Woman, (Marie Louise Elisabeth Vigée-Le Brun), and The Houses at Auvers, (Vincent van Gogh). My favorite collections were the European, English and French, paintings, the impressionistic painting, and the modern art, pop art, and sculpture. The Protest dress combined fashion with social issues in a bright, interesting way that had caught my eye. The Portrait of a Young Woman was stunning and interesting to know that it was painted by a woman, who at that period of time, was not technically able to attend any art schools. As for the Houses at Auvers, it was the colors that grabbed my attention at first and pulled me toward the painting. Upon closer inspection, the impressionistic brush strokes further captivated me as well. I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to go on this trip and having been able to see pieces like the Protest Dress, The Portrait of a Young Woman, and the Houses at Auvers.
My final art piece was one of the most tedious and interesting I have made. Between buying the fabric, cutting the patterns, etc., this piece by far was one of the most demanding projects I've done to date. Originally I had planned on making the dress seem as if it were from the Victorian era. While this almost did become a reality, in the end I decided upon altering the original pattern to make the dress sleeveless. The pattern of the dress I designed myself, going off of my formal knowledge of sewing garments. After the dress was sewn, which was the most tedious part of making the piece, the next step was to paint the dress. The three main paintings from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston that had inspired my piece were The Protest Dress (Proenza Schouler), The Portrait of a Young Woman, (Marie Louise Elisabeth Vigée-Le Brun), and The Houses at Auvers, (Vincent van Gogh). I liked the idea of making a dress from The Protest Dress, and the original Victorian design was based on The Portrait of a Young Woman, which although I altered, I somewhat kept the idea intact by keeping the same length for the dress and its high collar. The painting of the dress was inspired by The Houses at Auvers. I wanted an impressionistic vibe to come through the painting of the dress which is why I went with simple brush strokes in painting the cottage at the top of the dress and mixed different hues of blues with white for the bottom half and back. While a part of me still wishes I had kept the sleeves I initially planned the dress to have, the rest of me could not be more pleased with the end product of this final piece and I look forward to making better and greater pieces next year.

This piece is made using a variety of techniques such as linoleum carving, clay sculpting, block printing, illustrating using ink, etc. It's pieces stand to signify child soldiers and children exposed to war stricken environments in the middle east. The block prints with pictures underneath show young middle eastern children, a young girl and a young boy with a gun. The other block prints are on simple black or teal paper. The clay piece is shaped to function as an incense burner, the incense is meant to burn in memory of those affected by war in these countries. The pattern on the block print, base piece and back piece features curves, lines, and circles which blend with each other to fill the space. The back piece and teal block prints are placed strategically to fill the base and to make its shape appealing, using the teal paper to contrast with the red splatter paint and red ink block prints.
2016 Art III Final
This final painting has elements which make it a surreal piece that represents my four years at Bishop Stang. The surrealist portion of the painting is the figure, which is supposed to represent myself, wrapped in brown fabric as the columns are behind it. These three sets of columns are meant to represent my freshman, sophomore, and junior years at Stang. As each column gets closer to the back door, which represents my life before high school, each gets smaller, representing time going by. Myself representing my senior year, is moving past all the columns toward my life in the future outside of high school. The painting in general was meant to look similar to that of a Renaissance painting with its architecture in which I am the central figure. In order to find inspiration for the architecture of the piece, I look at different paintings of Greek and Roman palaces. For inspiration for the figure in my painting, I looked at different religious Renaissance paintings which contain many figures and draped robes/fabric, etc. Painted in acrylic paint, I used shades of green for the columns, etc. in order to contrast with the warmer brown, red, cream, and skin colors in the rest of the painting. Originally I was going to write words into the dark brown fabric with a white fine-tipped sharpie which represented different struggles of achievements each year depending on the columns but in the end, I decided to leave them blank, for the sake of time constraints. Overall, this painting is alright, not one of my favorite pieces I've ever done but definitely not one of my least favorites. This class, however, will always be my favorite class from all my years of high school and you, Ms. B, will always be my favorite teacher and an inspiration, thank you for everything!
